It's very informative & well researched book by Madiha Afzal where she has tried to explain the reasons of Extremism & Terrorism in Pakistan.
She starts from the constitution of Pakistan & further amendments time to time happened.
Her team visited several Government & Private High Schools where they conducted the interviews of students & teachers,attended the classes of Pakistan Studies.They also reviewd the syllabus being taught in the public & private schools, specifically the subject of Pakistan Studies.
Madiha highlights the change in syllabus during different eras but according to her Gen.Zia's period was unfavourable because it promoted extremism with the help of Jamat e Islami in School books syllabus.
She compares the mindset development of the high school Students because of reading Pakistan Studies subject where a government school student grows up with quite extreme mental approach specially against U.S & India.
Madiha Afzal visits several top universities in Pakistan & attends the dialogue with the Students & faculty. She shares her observations that university students are more open minded & better at analytical approaches.
She says this difference of mindset between high school & university students is because of humanities syllabus & betterly educated teachers.
But she also shares the cases of involvement of students studied from the top institutions such as Saad from IBA who was involved in the Ismaili belief Bus passengers in Karachi where she tells how out of university campus he had company of such extremists & terrorists who converted his thoughts for the humanity.
She talks about the power of religious groups such as Jamat e Islami, JUI , LeT etc who are that much powerful that they can blackmail any government.Here she talks about Ahmedi sect & blasphemy law too.
Madiha gives the examples of Salman Taseer the former Governor of Punjab who was assassinated by his own guard on the name of religion. She tells about the killing of Shahbaz Bhatti Christian minority parliamentarian who was killed because of working on the amendments of blasphemy law.
Madiha Afzal goes in depth about the Madressas (Religious Institutions) & their mashroom growth in the time of Afghan fight against Soviet. She tells how they were supported by the financial aid of Saudi Arabia & U.S.
Here she adds the top names of Taliban who studied in these Madrissas such as Mulla Umar who studied at Haqqania akora Khatak supervised by Moulana Sami ul Haq, TTP Fazal ullah who studied in the border Madrissa in Fata.
Madiha hilights the purpose of American Aid which reflects only American interests & has no vision for the receivers.
She says America needs to revise its policies and deal Pakistan like the other developing countries such as India with honour & dignity.
Finally, She tells that we have to Understand the difference between Extremism & Terrorism where there is need to find the root causes & work on the eradication.
